Dr. Teo Chiah Shean had a blossoming interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) since young whereby both his grandfather and great grandfather were TCM practitioners. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine from Crimea State Medical University, Ukraine in 2010. After completing his housemanship training in Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang, he pursued Rehabilitation Medicine as a medical officer in Sultan Ismail Hospital, Johor Bahru. He was soon appointed as the Head of Traditional & Complementary Medicine (T&CM) Unit after obtaining his certificate in acupuncture from the World Federation of Acupuncture- Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) in 2013.

He proceeded to obtain his Master of Integrative Medicine at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine in 2014 under the supervision of Professor Hou Li, Head of Hematology and Oncology Department, Dongzhimen Hospital, Beijing. He was awarded the China Scholarship Council (CSC) full scholarship. Upon his graduation in 2017, he was appointed as the Principal Assistant Director for the Policy and Development Section, Traditional and Complementary Medicine Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia. He started to practice TCM Oncology (Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture) at the National Cancer Institute in 2018 and was appointed as the Head of T&CM Unit in 2019.

His area of specialty is in the clinical practice and research of integrative medicine in Oncology. Being a council member of the Speciality Committee of Integrative Oncology and Classical TCM Formula for Cancer Treatment and Research Committee (CFCTRC) of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), he actively participated in the collaborative research work. He contributed to the development of Malaysian T&CM Practice Guideline of Acupuncture and Herbal Therapy. He is also the founding president of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Malaysia Alumni Association (BUCMMAA). He was conferred Visiting Professor of Institute of Integrative Medicine, Dalian Medical University on 26 October 2020. He was appointed as youth editorial board member of Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Science (Elsevier) in June 2021.
